Floyd D. Houston

A few words about Mr. Floyd D. Houston:

Born in 1898 to a NYC police officer, Floyd D. Houston worked extensively in the NYC maritime, was the director of Civil Defense in Eastern Long Island during the war, and eventually moved to New Suffolk, Long Island, New York, where he owned and operated (ca 1945 - 1979) the boatyard which had once been home to Mr Holland's efforts there. Inter alia, he became an amateur historian, specializing in early submersibles. He used his considerable talents as a craftsman to build models for the Navy and Naval Museums throughout the country, including the USS HOLLAND and many others. Floyd passed in 1984 and was interred in his beloved Atlantic. He was a scholar, craftsman, and an erascible old salt.

Very respectfully submitted by his grandson,
LtCol Floyd D. Houston USMC(Ret)
