Kings Bay gathered on Nov. 3, 2001 to dedicate the Subase administration building in honor of Rear Adm. Eugene B. Fluckey, former commanding officer of USS BARB SS-220.

During World War II, while commanding USS BARB and operating off the East Coast of China, then Cmdr. Fluckey exhibited unprecedented bravery while engaging the enemy.

For his heroic actions, he was awarded the Medal of Honor. As part of the ceremony, Fluckey shared sea stories from World War II and explained how he became a Medal of Honor winner.
