I've included some suggestions to get a story or story idea to The Dolphin staff.

¥ E-mail: You can send ideas to The Dolphin at the following address: editor@dolphin-news.com. If you submit a story you've authored, save it as a "text only" file and not in any software format such as Microsoft Word or Claris Works. Digital photos can also be e-mailed but should be saved as jpegs. Note: Polaroid pictures provide poor quality photos because they cannot be effectively scanned into the format used for the paper.

¥ Fax: The Dolphin fax line is 694-5012. Submit written stories double-spaced and with a point of contact name/phone number. Even if you just send a few lines telling us what makes a particular person special or important, maybe The Dolphin staff can "run" with the story.

¥ Color film should be used to shoot an event and need not be developed. Just provide information about the event and the individuals in the pictures. Remember, first names, rank/rate and warfare designations provide crucial information in identifying our hard working Sailors.

¥ Phone: If you come up with questions or ideas, I encourage you to contact the JOC(SW) William Polson at 694-5014.

Help us tell the good stories and recognize the great people of our SUBASE community.

The week's Submarine Force History question: Smallwood Hall, an enlisted bachelor quarters on Naval Station Pearl (on the former SUBASE Pearl grounds), is named in honor of submariner who performed an extraordinary deed of heroism. Name this man and the events that lead to his recognition. Look in my next column for the answer.

Have a safe week.
