The PAINE COLLECTION OF SUBMARINE BOOKS

A gift collection of 3,400 books about submarines and submarine warfare, from the family of the late Thomas O. Paine. Dr. Paine, administrator of NASA at the time of the first moon landings, and a graduate of Brown and Stanford Universities and a submariner during World War II. In April the books were presented at a ceremony held at the Naval Academy. The ceremony recognized and memorialized the contributions of the Navy's submarine service. Donations from twelve Academy graduating classes funded the cataloging of the Paine Collection, thereby enabling the Academy to accept the gift. The books are housed in the Nimitz Library's Special Collections and Archives Division.
