Ben Bastura got a copier
May 2001

From the Webmaster

BACKGROUND:

In the spring of 2001 the Lockwood Internet Base made the decison that in accordance with THE CREED - "To perpetuate the memory..." - they would donate a copier to Ben Bastura's Submarine Museum. A man who has single handedly made his contribution to that end of "perpetuating" our Submarine Force memory.

If you have read all the material on the previous page you know that Ben has for decades supported his museum entirely from his own funds --- and he is not getting any richer or any younger.

Below is the rest of the story

June 2001

From: John Wynn
Secretary Lockwood Internet Base faerwyn@compuserve.com

Prior to receiving the copier, Ben had to back his car out in the busiest street in Middletown CT, go to a Staples a couple of miles away, print the copies and then mail them. He NEVER charged a dime for any of the B/W images.

If nothing else, this copier may well add years to his life since he no longer has to "run the gauntlet" with that old wreck of his!!

He's just a neat old guy who has devoted most of his adult life to support and grow his museum.

Here is my report:

I delivered his new copier yesterday afternoon.

HP Officejet G55 Copier, HP 1600 Black Cart, HP NO.78 Tri-Color Cart, 2 Hammerill paper pack, 3 year inclusive service contract (He wondered if he'd expire BEFORE the service contract.)

    Total with tax $589.71

Needless to say, he was very happy. Bit emotional as well.

Spent a couple of hours with him showing him how to use it. Didn't take much as he's had a LOT of experience using the copiers at Staples.

Was a GREAT day for Ben!           "Like Christmas", he said.

Dear Commander Martini,

Yesterday I was about to cut the front lawn of the Museum, when I had an un-expected visitor. I had to do a "double-take" look because it was "Santa Claus" disquised as John Wynn from Old Saybrook, Ct.

"Santa" delivered a brand new H.P. Color/BW copy machine, I extra set of ink cartridges, 2 reams of copy paper, and a 3 year service guarantee for the copier.

John told me this is a donation from the USSVI Lockwood Internet Base for the Museum. I was stunned, speechless and very "grateful" to all of your dedicated members of the Internet Base.

Again THANKS to all of you for making my museum life more easier in the future.

Commander Martini, please pass my very best to each one of my friends in the USSVI Lockwood Internet Base.

"God Bless You All"

Respectfully Your Friend Always
Ben A. Bastura
