During a search for the sea-going tug CONESTOGA in May 1921, R-14 ran out of
fuel southeast of Hawaii. Sails were made from blankets and mattresses,
and the submarine arrived at Hilo on 15 May after 5 days under sail.

Launched: 10 Oct. 1919; Sponsored by Miss Florence L. Gardner; 
Commissioned: 24 Dec. 1919 with Lt Vincent A. Clarke, Jr., in command;
Decommissioned: 7 May 1945
Struck from the Navy list 14 May 1945
Sold for scrapping 29 Sept. 1945
