The thrust bearing contains a plate that absorbs the forward pressure on the propeller shaft generated by the propeller.

The thrust bearing is bolted to a foundation made from 1/4 inch plate and angle bar. The foundation is riveted to hull frames 1, 2 and 3. It is designed to transmit the propulsive force to the hull.
